Mars Chocolate - Factory Tour and Briefing
9 August 2012
The visit to Mars Chocolate on 9 August 2012 provided Connect members with an opportunity to learn about the history of the Mars company worldwide and, in particular, its organisation in Ballarat.
Starting in the mid 1970s, Mars Confectionery of Australia (as it was then known) moved to Ballarat and commenced its operations in Ring Road. The company's people focussed philosophy and egalitarian corporate culture was refreshing to those associates recruited at the start up.
That approach and culture was very much in evidence during our August visit.
The factory tour (and sampling) was also a highlight with two Mars associates - Gavin and "Grubby" - as tour guides. We were impressed by the sophisticated manufacturing processes - and the great product!
Our sincere thanks to Mars Chocolate for hosting us on 9 August.
